Dirk Elwert

Born in Gelsenkirchen, he studied Media Studies (theatre, movie and television) at the University of Cologne. From 1982-84 he was assistant stage director at the Musiktheater im Revier. After an education at the Zurich School for Dance and Theatre, and in Munich at the New School for Drama, he performed till 1992 as an actor in Hanover, Heilbronn and Nuremberg, amongst others. In 1992 he became the artistic director of Nuremberg’s ballet at the Städtische Bühnen, and founded together with Jean Renshaw and Uwe Möller the dance company TANZWERK Nürnberg in 1994, which he became administrative director of in 1996. In 1999 he moved to the Tanztheater Basel as administrative manager of the company. During the 2001/02 season Dirk Elwert became managing and artistic adviser of the Tanzkompanie Oldenburg MS Schrittmacher at the Oldenburg State Theatre. He was the creative and administrative director of the “International Ballet Days” (2003/2005) in Oldenburg.
